WHY A JEWISH MEMORIAL CENTER?
Jewish Memorial Center (JMC), is a unique Jewish memorial web site, that uses the Internet to commemorate the legacy of our loved ones, and thereby, preserve our collective memory and Jewish heritage.
The world has changed.
No longer do families live close by, where they can meet often and stay
in touch. No longer do we all gather every 'Yahrzeit’ (memorial day) at
our loved ones graveside, trying to remember how special they were, what
they accomplished, how much they loved us, and how much we loved them.
Today, family members are spread all over the globe. They keep moving.
This is a fast world. We live a fast life. Time is money. There is no time
to spare. If people
do stay in touch, it is only because they use the
latest technology.
First there was the telegraph, then the telephone and fax machines, and
now, the latest; most amazing invention mankind has developed - the Internet.
If you are reading this now, one does not have to explain to you the
power of the Internet.
Life in the future without it - can not be imagined.
Many
of us write a will. We do so (even if we do not admit it), because
everyone wants to be
remembered. Even for a short while. We all want the
whole world to know
that we were here, and what a difference we made. None of us wants to be
forgotten. The Jewish Memorial Center enables us all - ordinary people
from all walks of life - to live beyond our lives, side by side with the
greatest and most important Jewish figures in the history.
JMC is also the only
Jewish virtual memorial in the world, where family members can be linked
to each other, and many other links can be made to
every requested E-mail,
or relevant web site.
Whether you will partake
in planing your own memorial page, or leave it for others to decide how
you will be remembered, you must admit that
commemorative homepages
are a new concept. It is a revolution. It will take time for us all to
be able to consider and understand all of the possibilities and future
effects.
Until now it was customary
to create commemorative books for our loved ones. This was an enormously
expense. It was limited in number of copies one can afford to print and
distribute. It was also very aggravating when updates were needed (and
they are usually always needed).
On the Internet, updates
are a simple, immediate, and inexpensive procedure.
We must never forget
the six million Jewish martyrs who perished in the
Holocaust. Many of
the Jewish people lost relatives, family members,
friends or dear acquaintances,
that were murdered by the Nazis and their
collaborators during
the Holocaust.
JMC is the only Jewish virtual memorial in the world, where victims of the Holocaust, individuals and groups, can be commemorated and remembered forever.
Deep in our hearts,
we all have a warm corner for a family member, close
friend, or dear acquaintance
that passed away. We would surely love them to be remembered in the most
dignified and modern way this century can provide.
Jewish Memorial Center
is also a place for the living. It is a place where
one can spend, as much
time as wanted with the lost loved ones. It is a
place to keep a loved
one’s memory alive. A path to immortality.
Years go by and memories fade. How wonderful will it be, if your children's children will have access to your great great grandfather's biography, and see the family tree?
Preparing commemorative
homepages, to be launched on the Internet through the JMC, is a wonderful
idea and also a great opportunity for the whole family to go back in time
and learn about its roots, and the family's
history.
While going through your family's records, photo albums, sound recordings, home made movies and videos, much information and memories will be remembered. There will be memories that you will want to save for generations to come. By leaving your personal information, or just an E-mail address, on a memorial that you created, you make it possible for others to contact you, add information, and maybe even find unknown or lost family members.
Jewish Memorial Center
will keep all this very important and priceless
information - in more
then one organized and safe place. It will all be
available for free
access every minute of every day all the year around,
for every human being
on earth for many years to come, and hopefully - forever!
Now we have the knowledge
needed to start building a strong foundation to preserve our Jewish heritage.
