SCHROETTER

Moritz Moshe Schroetter was born in Poland. He lived in Berlin where he owned Porcelain, Crystal & Glass business on Alexanderinen St. in Alexanderinen Hof.
On 31.10.1920 at the age of  29 he married Netti Schmidt. He fathered Adolf Siegmund.

He divorced his wife Netti in 1926.

In 1940, when the Nazis were in power in Germany, Moritz had to abandon his most successful business, and flee for his life. He tried to escape to Palestine, where his ex wife lived with his son Adolf Siegmund.

The British, who ruled Palestine at that time, caught the ship that was supposed to bring Moritz to the shores of Tel-Aviv.
Moritz, was exiled to the island of Mauritius.
He arrived in Mauritius on 14.9.1940, and spent 5 years as a prisoner.

After 5 years of lobbyism that took place all over the world, the British agreed to release the 1500 Jews they kept illegally as prisoners on the island of Mauritius. Moritz Moshe Schroetter, arrived as a sick man in Haifa, on 8.5.1945.

Seven months later he died in 'Haifa' at the 'Hanamal Hotel'. He was 55 years old at the time.

He died on Tuesday 18 ADAR 5706.

Moritz Moshe Scroetter is buried in Haifa.
